POEMS FOR THE NEW YEAR

The start of a New Year is an ideal time to reflect on the past; to take account of one’s Christian walk; and, to consider the direction God may want to lead each of us in the coming days. Set aside some time to pause and evaluate your spiritual walk, as you seek God's presence with this prayerful collection of New Year's poems for Christians.

Instead of making a New Year’s resolution,
  consider committing to a biblical solution.
Your promises are easily broken…empty
   words, though earnestly spoken.
But God’s Word transforms the soul,
   by His Holy Spirit making you whole.
As you spend time alone with Him,
   He will change you from within.

   How can I use the New Year to better serve my Lord?
I’ll read my Bible every day, and be more in accord.

I’ll find new ways to serve others; I’ll love my neighbor, too.
I’ll focus on “give” instead of “get” in everything I do.

I’ll forgive the people I’m mad at; angry feelings I’ll discard;
I’ll try to love my enemies, even though it’s hard.

In the New Year, I’ll lift people up, instead of putting them down.
I’ll fill my heart with love and joy, and never wear a frown.

I’ll let go of my worries; put it all in His hands;
I’ll repent and try to sin less, and obey all His commands.

These New Year’s resolutions are difficult, at best.
Yet, here’s what I can do each day that will put my soul at rest:

I’ll love my Lord with all my heart, with all my mind and soul;
If I do that essential thing, I’ll leave the rest in His control.

JUST ONE REQUEST

      Dear Master for this coming year
        Just one request I bring:

        I do not pray for happiness,
        or any earthly thing—
        I do not ask to understand
        the way Thou leadest me;

        But this I ask: Teach me to do
        the thing that pleases Thee.
        I want to know Thy guiding voice;
        To walk with Thee each day.

        Dear Master, make me swift to hear
        and ready to obey.
          And thus the year I now begin
        a happy year will be…

        If I am seeking just to do
        the things that pleaseth Thee.

HIS UNFAILING PRESENCE

Another year I enter, its history unknown;
Oh, how my feet would tremble to tread its paths alone!
But, I have heard a whisper, I know I shall be blest;
"My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.”

What will the New Year bring me? I may not, must not know;
   Will it be love and rapture, or loneliness and woe?
   Hush! Hush! I hear His whisper…I surely shall be blest;
   "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest."

A RECIPE TO LIVE BY

Take a cup of Forgiveness, stir in some of God’s grace,
   then fold it into your heart and this recipe you’ll embrace.

But, you’ll need to keep adding, more ingredients as you go,
   if you plan on having a year where Love can rise and grow.

You’re going to need Patience, at least a cup or two…
   if you want to have meekness bubbling up inside of you.

Slowly blend in a heaping spoonful of Goodness;
   beat into the mixture to whip up Gentleness.

Don’t forget to add a pinch of Joy; and, as you whisk it into Peace,
   add a dollop of Faith and Trust, so Hope you will release.

If you live in the Spirit, you will need to walk in it, too…
   If you follow this recipe to produce His fruit in you!

ANOTHER YEAR

Another year is dawning, Dear Master, let it be,
in working, or in waiting, another year with Thee.
Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face.
Another year of progress, another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.
Another year of service, of witness of Thy love,
Another year of training for holy work above.
Another year is dawning; Dear Master, let it be
on earth, or else in heaven, another year with Thee.
