PRESIDENT'S DAY

Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February.

The federal holiday originally honored George Washington, who led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War. He became the country’s first President, serving from 1789-1797.

After his death in 1799 his birthday, February 22, became a day of special remembrance. At the start, Washington’s birthday was only recognized in the District of Columbia; in the late 1870s it became a federal holiday.

As time progressed and history saw important moments in time led by strong and captivating national leaders, the holiday transformed to be popularly known as Presidents Day in 1971. This took place as part of President Richard Nixon’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents' Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

Presidents’ Day occurs this year on Monday, February 21.

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.  Romans 13:1 NLT

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.  1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT
