THE FARMER'S WATCH

There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch while working in his barn. He suspected he lost it while working in the center of the barn, where he had been separating a large pile of hay into smaller piles.

It was no ordinary watch, and it had great sentimental value for him. After searching for a long time, high and low, in the several piles of hay, he sadly gave up looking for it.

Then he noticed a group of children playing nearby. He called to them to enlist their help in looking for the watch inside the barn. He promised them that the person who found it would be nicely rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn! They looked everywhere, as they went through and around all the stacks of hay; but, no one was able to find the watch.

Just when the farmer was about to give up hope for getting his watch back, one of the little boys came up to him and asked if he could be given another chance to try to find the watch.

The farmer looked at him and thought to himself, “Why not? After all, this boy looks capable and is sincere enough.”

So the farmer sent the young boy back into the barn. Surprisingly, It wasn’t very long until the youngster came out with the watch in his hand!

The farmer was both very happy, and certainly surprised!  He then asked the young boy how he succeeded where the attempt by all the others had failed.

The boy replied, “I did nothing but just sat on the ground and listened. In the silence, I was able to hear the ticking of the watch. I just went and looked for it in that direction.”

Moral:  A peaceful mind can think better than a worked-up mind. Allow a few minutes of silence for your mind each and every day. Meditate on God’s desire and ability to offer you direction through His Word and Voice.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God’s Word illuminates the ways in which we should go physically, emotionally, and mentally. His Word is designed to influence the ways we think, feel, and act.
